The Commerce Commission in Fiji says the government has assured its staff they will have police protection following an attack on one of its employees.
The commission's chairman Mahendra Reddy says the alleged assault occurred on Friday after the commission took out a court order to compel hardware companies to provide information about its investigation into pricefixing in the industry.
Dr Reddy says the staff member sustained bruises to his head in the attack, but is now back at work.
He says the timing of the incident suggests it was related to the investigation.
"One of the staff, the team leader, was attacked by an unknown person, who warned him to stop doing what he was doing or things will get worse. So we basically think this is linked to the investigation we are doing."
Dr Reddy says it should complete its investigation in three weeks
