The American Samoa Power Authority or ASPA, will secure a company to evaluate sites and provide specification for a new power plant on the territory's main island of Tutuila.
ASPA's Satala power plant was completed destroyed by last September's tsunami and the authority is looking at alternative sites for its relocation.
ASPA's board chairman, Asaua Fuimaono, says the total cost for rebuilding the Satala Power Plant is about 52 million US dollars and ASPA is in the process of securing an Architectural and Engineering company to evaluate sites and specifications of a new plant.
ASPA will then submit the plan for comments by the US Federal Emergency Management Agency.
ASPA currently has an 18 month contract with Aggreko International to provide temporary generators to help power the island until a permanent solution for the Satala plant is reached.
