The Australian airline Jetstar will take off to Fiji from Sydney for the first time today .
The service will be operating four times a week with each flight catering for up to 177 passengers.
A spokesman for Jetstar, Simon Westerway, says growing demand has led to the launch of the flights between Sydney and Nadi.
"The market we believe will be well suited to Jetstar's competitive proposition in broader offering to customers and it's a market that's a growth market. It's a market of which we're seeing record numbers of Australians now travelling through the Sydney corridor through to Fiji. And we're hopeful that we can build on the existing success in that market of other players and certainly to contribute profitably to our operations."
Simon Westerway says the new service will bring greater competition to the market and boost Fiji's economy.
