Former Solomon Islands PM welcomes High Court decision

12:06 pm on 3 March 2010

The former Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Sir Alan Kemakeza, says he accepts a High Court decision that disqualifies the result of his parliamentary by-election for the Savo/Russell Constituency last year.

The High Court had ruled that his candidacy was void because at the time of the by-election, he was still under a 12-month suspended sentence over his role in an attack on a law firm in 2002 when he was Prime Minister.

Sir Allan, who served six months in jail, is allowed to contest the general elections for his People's Alliance Party later this year.
