Dengue posing a threat in American Samoa

3:03 pm on 17 February 2010

There has been a resurgence of dengue fever in American Samoa with 42 positive cases last month.

This is up on December when just 17 of those tested had the mosquito borne disease.

The LBJ hospital's chief medical officer, Taulapapa Dr. Aloiamoa Anesi, says the territory is still having a lot of rain and the risk of infection remains.

He says mosquito eradication through clearing potential breeding grounds is still very important, along with wearing proper clothing and using deet-containing mosquito repellents.
