Fiji emergency operations wind down after Cyclone Mick

2:50 pm on 21 December 2009

Fiji's Disaster Management Office says emergency operations after Cyclone Mick have been scaled down.

The office's acting director Pajilai Dobui, says 13 evacuation centres remain open in areas affected by flooding, such as Naitasiri and Rewa.

He says 577 people are being looked after at the centres but most power and water services have now been restored.

"Those that were affected by the flood, they are still waiting for the Ministry of Health to clear their homes and their villages before they can move back. Although everything has normalised for them, we are just carrying out safety precautions."
