American Samoa's Governor Togiola Tulafono has again told department directors that they must put a stop to the abuse of government vehicles.
At a cabinet meeting this week the governor said that he has personally seen government employees driving family members around after work hours.
He told directors that they have to be sterner with employees about the use of government vehicles as he's still receiving reports about government vehicles being used after hours without authorisation.
The governor told his cabinet that they should consider having all cars parked at the departments and not taken home. He said this would also save gas.
The Director of Administrative Service Nuutai Sonny Thompson said that the police are still impounding government vehicles found on the road after hours and on weekends without approval.
He said departments have to pay a fine before they get their vehicles back.
