Image of Mother Mary draws crowds in Samoa

Hundreds of Catholic believers in Samoa have gathered to see what they believe is an image of Mother Mary.

The image appears at the site of the Congregational Christian Church's John Williams building at Tamaligi in Apia on one of the

wings of the six storey complex facing mount Vaea.

But according to some non Catholics who saw the image it doesn't look like mother Mary, but an image of the Christ instead.

An employee of a government corporation located near the complex says none of their workers had noticed the image until last Friday when they saw people pointing at it.

The authorities of the Catholic Church in Samoa are reluctant to talk about the image, but a prayer service was held at the site on Monday night.
