Authorities in Fiji say 13 new cases of HIV/AIDS have taken the country's confirmed total of victims to 303.

The Fiji Times reports family health national advisor Dr Josaia Samuela as saying one of the new cases is a child.

Dr Samuela says there is some under-reporting of HIV cases with family members asking doctors not to list the cause of death since this affects insurance payouts.

He says of the confirmed cases just over half are male, while people aged from 20 to 29 accounts for 137 cases.
