Two officials of a leading tuna processing company, Tri Marine International, have visited the Samoa Packing plant and held talks with cannery and government officials.
Tri Marine is a tuna supply company with a focus on supplying tuna and tuna products.
It has offices in 14 countries and processing plants around the world.
Industry sources have told KHJ News Tri Marine is looking at taking over the Samoa Packing plant at Atuu.
In response to email inquiries, Managing Director Joe Hamby says it is company policy not to comment on its business to the media.
It's understood that while in the territory Mr Hamby met with governor Togiola Tulafono.
On his radio program last Saturday, the governor said he is still searching for other companies to operate the tuna canning plant when Samoa Packing closes.
He added the companies have asked not to name them and publicize their discussions at this time.
The Tri Marine Officials arrived last Thursday and held meetings with Samoa Packing management over the weekend.
