A Member of Parliament in Solomon Islands has warned he will move to reintroduce the death penalty if people in his province of Malaita continue to kill each other.
The Solomon Times reports that the MP for Lau, Mbaelelea Walter Folotalu, spoke of his intentions during a debate on the Criminal Procedure Code Amendment Bill.
The MP says the death penalty must be revived to stop the trend of tribes avenging the death of one of their members by killing another person.
He says if murdering and killing continues in the country, he will move a motion in the House to bring back the death penalty so the State can avenge tribal killings.
