The latest action against opposing voices in Fiji is being seen as an attempt to control some of the last areas of dissent against the interim regime.
An expert on Fiji based at the Australia National University, Jonathan Fraenkel, says this action matches that taken against other sectors in Fiji
"The question is will indigenous Fijians rally to the Paramount Chief of Rewa, Ro Teimumu Kepa, who has been arrested, will they listen to the call to come to the annual Methodist conference that was to be held in her village in Rewa or will the military prove successful in arresting senior church figures and arresting the chief that's called this conference and seeing off the last threat."
