The regime in Fiji has been accused of using informants and creating mistrust among the nation's citizens.
Fiji born New Zealand businessman, Ballu Khan, who took part in a protest in Sydney calling for the return of democracy to Fiji, said it was now hard to trust anyone with neighbours dobbing each other in, in return for favours.
Mr Khan was accused of masterminding an assassination plot against Commodore Frank Bainimarama but the charges were dropped.
He believes many people in Fiji are now suspicious of others:
"I think people are starting to become very nervous about any dealings with anybody, whether it be neighbours, taxi drivers, banks, because the regime has agents everywhere."
