American Samoa's "shovel ready" energy projects to be funded with stimulus money from the U.S. Department of Energy have been identified and will be submitted to the federal government by next week.
The projects were revealed during a public hearing called by the Territorial Energy Office, the local agency overseeing the funds.
The public hearing was held to discuss the Comprehensive State Energy plan to be funded with money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, managed by TEO, the Territorial Energy Office.
TEO acting director, Mauigoa Reupena Tagaloa, says Dr Luis Vega of Honolulu has been hired as a consultant
Mr Vega emphasized "preference is given to shovel ready projects" that can commence work shortly by June 19, and among the restrictions is that all project work is to be completed within 36 months thereafter.
