A meeting of Fiji's Law Society planned for today is unlikely to go ahead.
Under the emergency regulations in force in Fiji, meetings of a political nature need a permit from the interim government.

"The President of the Law Society, Dorsami Naidu, says the interim regime hasn't given a permit in writing, and he understands it is unlikely to be granted. He says he believes the authorities consider the matters the society is to discuss - including the judiciary and the abrogation of the constitution - too political. Mr Naidu says he will attempt to get permission to hold a meeting next week. He also says he has been repeatedly asked in the past week to go to the military camp at Lautoka, but is refusing."
