The organising committee for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Island's Liberation Day commemorations says it needs to hold a gambling booth to generate funds.
The annual event to be held between June the 5th and July the 5th will mark 63 years since armed forces liberated the Northern Mariana Islands.
The Liberation Day committee spokesman, Tony Benavente, says the stall has been successful in the past and says it's the most effective way of fundraising for the community.
"It's been a tradition in Saipan since day one of Liberation Day which has been I think started in 1976 or 77. Usually there are leftovers in total revenue generated from booths, concessions, Las Vegas night; less how much was expended. In the end the committee makes a profit."
Tony Benavente says it's application for the stall is now in the hands of the Attorney General's Office.
