Samoa's government is confident it will see only a small impact from the current global economic crisis.
The government held an economic summit over the weekend to allow consultation with the private sector, including the Council of Churches, the umbrella NGO organisation, the Chamber of Commerce, manufacturers, exporters and the tourism, farming and fishing industry.
Our correspondent, Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia, says the Governor of the Reserve Bank told the gathering it has forecast the Samoan economy will be in recession by the end of June.
"There's still a lot of positivity from the Government that we're not really going to experience any harsh impact from this crisis. But hopefully the government in their efforts are still moving to increase their campaign in the outer villages...the Talamua, which is the agricultural, farming throughout the villages. Because the Prime Minister believes if people have enough food to rely on people will still survive."
