Dissent growing between French Polynesia's leading politicians

There is deepening dissent between French Polynesia's veteran politicians, Oscar Temaru and Gaston Flosse, less than two months after they succeeded in a joint effort to bring about an end to the year-long presidency of Gaston Tong Sang.

President Oscar Temaru has labelled Mr Flosse irresponsible for bypassing him in efforts to set up a commission of inquiry into the running of the territory's carrier, Air Tahiti Nui.

This comes amid disagreement in budget matters but which have seen opposition politicians backing the Temaru administration, saying this stance was in the people's interest.

With Mr Flosse's Tahoeraa Huiraatira Party considering abstaining in the budget vote, Mr Temaru says this would mean that a partner puts the government in a minority which he says would be the end of the current administration.

Mr Flosse says his party is committed to the budget but wants to have more coordination, claiming the government has put only

forward a very simple budget plan.
