The president of Niue's Tourism Association says that they welcome the return of the Niue Tourism Authority saying increasing accommodation to justify more airline flights needs to be their top priority.
The private sector run association's, Patricia Hunter, who also runs Golden Age Pacific Holiday Homes, says the authority had dwindled in recent years with people resigning and the authority not being run properly.
There's now renewed hope with the Premier of Niue's announcement of new people elected to the Tourism Authority board who she says hopefully will do what's best for the industry.
"I think it's important that the Authority has been re-established. It's covered by an Act of Parliament and it's been in recess for about five years. So they are the interface really between the private sector and the government and act in an advisory role and also ensure the management and operation of tourism services on the island."
