In Solomon Islands, the historical Kennedy Island in Western Province is now in private hands.

Gizo Hotel is the new owner.

The hotel, owned by an Australian Shane Kennedy, bought the famous island from Joseph Douglas of Munda who lives in Honiara, for an undisclosed sum.

The picturesque island, located just off Gizo, was named after former United States President John F. Kennedy, who fought in the country in World War II.

Shane Kennedy told the Solomon Star newspaper they are still looking at different options for the island.
