A number of teachers in Makira-Ulawa province in Solomon Islands still haven't started work, seven weeks into the academic year.

The Makira-Ulawa education division has advised teachers to reach their respective schools by this week.

The Solomon Island Broadcasting Corporation says some teachers have not been able to begin work because of a lack of accommodation.

It says some communities need to build staff Houses before teachers can move to their schools.
