Trial of senior Samoa cop facing sex charges set for June

11:54 am on 5 March 2009

The latest case of sexual allegations against a senior police officer in Samoa is set to go on trial in June.

The senior officer through his defense lawyer has entered a not guilty plea to six counts including five of indecent assault and one of sodomy.

But the court's interim order to suppress the officer's name is still in place until the application by the prosecution to lift the name suppression is heard next Monday.

The presiding judge, Vaepule Vaemoa Va'ai, says he needs time to go through the opposing written application by the police.

The accused has been asked for the second time in court to surrender all his travel documents as part of his bail conditions.
