Cruise ship Star Flyer will stop sailing out of Tahiti next year

Press reports from French Polynesia say the cruise ship Star Flyer will stop its sailings out of Tahiti next year.

Les Nouvelles de Tahiti says the ship's departure next February will leave just one cruise ship in the archipelago.

The paper says this means a loss of about 7,000 visitors as well as a loss of 7,000 tickets for Air Tahiti Nui.

The latest move follows a plan mooted by the new tourism minister, Jacqui Drollet, for the territory to enter the cruise ship business by acquiring its own vessel.
