A senator in Guam is pushing for the inclusion of the Philippines, alongside the Northern Marianas' push for the inclusion of Russia and China, in an upcoming visa waiver programme.

The new visa waiver program, which is part of the implementation of the Consolidated Natural Resources Act of 2008, extends federal immigration laws from June the first.

A Guam Senator, Judith Guthertz, wants the inclusion of the Philippines to be included under the visa waiver, saying it's of significant economic benefit and will extend their family and cultural ties.

The lawmaker told the Saipan Tribune newspaper that the country has a large presence in Guam's history and much of the Chamorro culture is adopted from Philippine culture.
