U.S. Postal Service is implementing rate increases

The U.S. Postal Service is implementing rate increases for first-class stamps to go into effect in May and will continue to adjust rates every May after that.

The independent federal entity says rising operation costs make the price adjustment necessary, saying the increase tracks the 2008 rate of inflation.

The U.S. Postmaster General, John Potter, says the postal service is not immune to rising costs affecting many homes and businesses across America, although it continues to offer some of the lowest postage rates in the world.
