The Papua New Guinea rugby league CEO Danny Holmes says putting in a bid to join the Australian National Rugby League competition has united the country.

Holmes says the funding of 185 thousand US dollars from the government to lodge their bid has the country buzzing.

He says league is more than happy with the government's help

"They're actually uniting the whole country with this by putting themselves the elected government behind the national sport of rugby league which has almost a 100 percent of the country supporting it, they've really come up with the mastercard as far as uniting the whole country is concerned."
