Samoa PM against charges over controversial gun smuggling case

Samoa's Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, has reaffirmed his Cabinet's decision not to consider charges against Samoa's police commissioner, and another officer, over the smuggling of firearms from American Samoa.

Tuilaepa says it was always up to Cabinet to make a final decision on the inquiry's findings.

He says the investigation placed the majority of blame on customs for not searching the police boat, and the captain of the boat itself:

"In a paragraph, summing up the whole gist of the inquiry, placed the onus of the problem on the captain of the boat for agreeing to bring this parcel without the associated documentation."
