Fiji's ousted opposition leader says it is time the international community got tough with the interim regime, over its refusal to hold elections.
The Pacific Islands Forum has given Fiji a deadline of May the 1st to announce a date for 2009 elections, which it says must happen by the end of year or the country will face sanctions.
But Mick Beddoes says there are other things that can be done, like the entire region imposing travel sanctions on members of the interim government, essentially exiling them to Fiji.
"I know we're going to pay the price, we're going to suffer for it. But we need to get serious about the kind of action we're going to take to not allow such a regime to continue operating. We've got to stop their ability to effectively operate."
Mick Beddoes says other countries also need to pass a law to make it illegal for their citizens to work for the interim regime.
