The US Geological Survey says a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 has struck off Papua New Guinea.
The undersea quake hit about 409 kilometres north-northeast of the capital Port Moresby late last night at a depth of 60 kilometres.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
