Forum Fiji Joint group agrees on revised terms

11:40 am on 20 January 2009

The Pacific Islands Forum/Fiji joint working group has agreed on revised terms of reference for its work, taking into account developments in Fiji.

After meeting for the 35th time, the group said it would be most appropriate for next week's Forum leaders meeting in Papua New Guinea to discuss issues surrounding the implementation of the electoral and constitutional changes proposed by the Fiji interim government.

The interim regime has said it wants these changes to be made for it to allow elections to be held.

It has given no date for when it plans to relinquish power.
