New Zealand's Government has announced it will give a further help, of aruond 270 thousand US dollars, to help flood stricken Fiji.
It comes after Fiji's military government asked for international assistance, following days of heavy rain that has left at least 11 people dead, thousands of people homeless and many businesses destroyed.
The money, which is on top of an initial 60-thousand US dollar contribution, will go to aid organisations and not the military regime itself.
The Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully says most of it will go towards supplying items identified as being urgently needed, in particular water tanks and containers, purification tablets and rehydration salts.
The Government says it will consider further requests for assistance as more detailed assessments come in from Fiji.
Meanwhile, an interim government release says all evacuation centres in the 3 divisions, which number over 120, are being closely monitored by staff from the Ministry of Health and the Disaster Management Office for safe water, sanitation and hygiene.
Shift clinics are being provided to patients and maternal child health for
children.
