Air Marshall Islands only plane grounded

5:24 pm on 15 January 2009

All domestic flights in the Marshall Islands are on hold after a mishap with the domestic airline's only plane.

Air Marshall Islands 34-seat Dash-8 suffered damage to its right wingtip when it ran into a U.S. Federal Aviation Administration vertical antenna tower next to the runway apron while being towed to its hangar.

Giff Johnson reports.

"Air Marshall Islands is getting parts to replace the wingtip that was damaged while the plane was being towed. It's a fairly straight forward job of maintenance, so presumably they'll be able to get in the air shortly. It just means the Marshall Islands has been without air service again which has been a factor for the last year and a half of repeated groundings of Air Marshall Islands' plane."
