Fiji women hold peace vigil for middle East

The convenor of a women's vigil for peace in the Middle East held in Suva yesterday says it's also time Fiji found an end to its own political crisis.

FemLink Pacific says the vigil is one of several organised by women's peace groups around the world in response to a call to action by the Palestinian YWCA.

Sharon Bhagwan Rolls says she hopes all Pacific leaders will support efforts by the United Nations to bring about an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

But she says it's also a critical time for reflection on the need for peace in Fiji.

"We still live in very turbulent times in Fiji. Over Christmas, it wasn't the best Christmas; I've just come back from a rural visit in the northern part of Fiji, Vanua Levu, and women are really struggling, women and children are really struggling too."
