More hardship found in Solomons after high seas

3:39 pm on 7 January 2009

Disaster officials in Solomon Islands say the Malaita outer Island of Sikaiana is in dire need of food relief.

The Solomon Star says a multi-agency team sent recently to Lord Howe and Pelau with relief supplies says Sikaiana is also affected by waves which wiped out food gardens.

Last month, a huge wave hit Pelau and Lord Howe, destroying food gardens and leaving many hungry and homeless.

The paper says an assessment report has been compiled and is now with the Director of the National Disaster Management Office, Loti Yates.
