The American Samoa Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunken has voiced his disappointment with the United States State Department over the federal government's handling of the Hans Joachim Keil case, calling Keil's public arrest cruel and demoralizing.
Two weeks ago, a judge at the federal court in Springfield, Missouri dismissed charged against Keil, who is Samoa's associate minister, after prosecutors filed a motion to drop the charges.
But in a letter to the US Secretary of State, Dr. Condoleezza Rice, the congressman says he is very disappointed in the means federal officials took to arrest Mr Keil.
The Congressman points out that at the time of his arrest, Mr Keil had been issued a total of seven US passports since 1967 and says there were never any issues or questions concerning his status as a US citizen.
