Some of the residents of downtown Kolofo'ou in Nuku'alofa, the capital of Tonga, support continuing emergency powers covering the CBD.

The emergency powers proclamation has been in force since riots two years ago.

The Tonga Broadcasting Corporation reports the prolonged enforcement of the powers has angered some who say their freedoms are being restricted.

But the town officer of Kolofo'ou, Tevita Manu Fasi says the Government and authorities should continue protecting the town to ensure residents live in a safe and free environment.

Mr. Fasi says they feel quite safe and secure when the emergency powers are still enforced.

Another Kolofo'ou resident, Tu'ipulotu 'Ilavalu, while the emergency powers may restrict freedom of movement, they often find intoxicated strangers trespassing on their properties.
