A major development project in the Papua New Guinea city of Lae is under threat of being abandoned following a dispute between traditional landowners and two stakeholders.
The Post Courier says Ahi landowners have threatened to shut down the Lae Port Tidal Basin project because of a disagreement with the Independent Public Business Corporation and the Asian Development Bank.
Ahi landowners claim the IPBC and ADB have breached an agreement relating to the resettlement of people who moved to make way for the development.
The Ahi Landowners Association is voicing its concern after IPBC and ADB announced last week that the resettlement exercise would not eventuate and instead a re-patriation exercise would be carried out.
The Association says the decision was made without consulting the landowners.
