Fiji's National Federation Party said the move by the Public Service Commission to reduce civil service by 10 per cent is part of the proposed People's Charter.
NFP general secretary Parmod Rae said while the plan could see cost-cutting for the Government, he said the timing was poor.
Mr Rae said with the economic situation in the country, this is not a good time to lay off workers.
PSC chairman Rishi Ram said earlier in the week they had identified 800 posts for destablishment.
Mr Ram told the Fiji Times that the move would save millions.
