The Solomon Islands Government says it remains firmly committed to reconciliation and rehabilitation in the parts of the country which suffered during the years of ethnic violence.

The Minister of National Unity, Reconciliation and Peace, Sam Iduri, made this comment during a 4 day reconciliation summit on the island of Kwai in East Malaita last week.

Mr Iduri says his Government will strive to foster national unity, reconciliation, human rehabilitation and sustainable peace.

He says they will do this through restorative justice, conflict resolution mechanisms, including strengthening partnership with stakeholders at all levels in the process of nation and peace building, good governance and integration.

Mr Iduri says the success of the reconcilation process will depend on identifying and addressing the root causes of the violence.
