A new two million US dollar public service administration building for Niue
has been opened.
It was built with aid money from France and New Zealand and will house up to 90 of the 450 public servants employed in government departments.
Staff from treasury, administration, community affairs, economic affairs
and information services will move into the building before Christmas.
It has been built at Fonuakula, about 1 kilometre inland from the main village of Alofi.
It's hoped that the distance from the coast will protect it from devastating cyclones.
The building was designed by New Zealand architects and constructed with
local labour by a Samoa based company, Craig Construction, which have also
erected a new workshop for the public works machinery..
