A New Zealand defence representative, John Mckinnon, arrived to a warm welcome yesterday by villagers of Falimae on Mono Island in Solomon Islands.
It was a historical landing again for Mr Mckinnon whose father was part of the allied landing on Mono in 1943.
He was a special guest for the 65th anniversary along with American and Australian troops who remembered those who recaptured Mono from the Japanese.
