The former governor of Southern Highlands province in Papua New Guinea claims a series of recent police actions against him may be politically motivated.
Hami Yawari has accused his successor, Anderson Agiru, of engineering police harassment of him, following a standoff at his Port Moresby home on Tuesday night.
Police had been called in by the landlord to evict Mr Yawari over alleged unpaid rent of 80,000 US dollars.
After tense negotiations, Mr Yawari, who was arrested in August for allegedly misappropriating nearly a million US dollars worth of local project money, agreed to vacate the home later this week.
The former Governor, who is petitioning the election result in which Mr Agiru defeated him, says he doesn't owe rent and sees no reason for police to be involved.
"Maybe politically motivated. I don't know why all these things are coming up. That's the question I'm asking so I went to court and successfully got a court order to restrain police or anyone coming to my area, and also the landlord."
