PNG power company increases security for workers after attacks

Papua New Guinea's main power supplier has heightened security measures following repeated attacks by armed criminals.

Earlier, the PNG Power company had stopped responding to callouts after 4.30 in the capital Port Moresby, after workers had been robbed and attacked last Friday evening by people armed with guns and knives.

The Acting Cheif Executive, Tony Koiri, says workmen have now resumed attending calls after hours, but additional security will be provided when they go to risky areas.

Mr Koiri says some of the attackers are opportunists looking for money and goods and he says others were purely evil.
