Samoa government to build new Consulate in Auckland

9:25 am on 19 September 2008

The Samoa government has announced approval of the purchase of four acres of land in South Auckland for the construction of a new Consul General' s office.

A traditional Samoan fale is to be constructed on the land as well as a convention centre to be used by the Samoan community in New Zealand for functions and activities.

The announcement comes after an opposition MPraised concerns over the high cost of the lease of the present Samoan Consul General's office in Auckland

The project should begin when all legal documents and architect plans as well as the purchase of the property have been completed.
