In Vanuatu, official election results show the former government's junior coalition party, the Vanua'aku Party led by Edward Natapei, is the largest single party in the new parliament followed by Ham Lini's National United Party.
If those two parties can attract enough others to form a government, Edward Natapei is expected to be the new prime minister, with former prime minister, Ham Lini, expected to become his deputy.
One successful independent candidate Ralph Regenvanu says he and three other MPs are prepared to join that grouping if their conditions are met.
32 of the 52 parliamentarians are reported to have agreed to form a new coalition at a meeting yesterday, but this is questioned by some sources.
