The American Samoan assistant attorney general, Faamomoe Masaniai, has been sacked from office.
He has been associated with several high profile cases prosecuted by the government and has upset some when he ealier said on local TV that corruption was rampant in the attorney general's office.
Our correspondent, Monica Miller reports.
"The services of the assistant attorney general were terminated by his boss. No official statement has been issued by the attorney general's office thus far. But we know from very informed sources that one of the reasons being cited for this action is the latest case which the former assistant attorney general prosecuted and that involves four defendants from the attorney general's office. We are told that the attorney general was on vacation when the charges were filed."
