The carrier, Air Austral, has confirmed that it will launch two weekly

flights from Paris to New Caledonia via its base in Reunion in the Indian Ocean.

The head of Air Austral,Gerard Etheve, told the news agendy AFP that with the boom in the New Caledonian economy, there was a lack of capacity on flights to France.

He says this means that the Reunion to Sydney service will be extended to Noumea and see some cooperation with Air Caledonie International on the Australian leg of the route.

No definite dates have been given but a launch may be possible in April shortly after the airline is expected to get two Boeing 777.
