3:59 pm on 20 August 2008

Solomon Islands is to be included as a formal partner in the New Zealand employment scheme set up to address work shortages in New Zealand, and provide jobs for Pacific Island workers.

The Recognised Seasonal Employer Scheme allows New Zealand employers to recruit from several Pacific Island countries when they can't find local workers.

Formal arrangements have been in place with Kiribati, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu, to facilitate recruitment and visa processing.

The New Zealand government will also start a training scheme for those wanting to further their education while working in New Zealand.
