An anti-corruption organisation in Papua New Guinea says it's satisfied the public prosecutor will make a decision soon on the prime minister's case.
Prime minister Sir Michael Somare had in June been referred by the ombudsman commission to be prosecuted for an alleged misconduct of office for irregularities in his personal finances dating back to 1992.
After weeks of speculation on whether he will step down, Sir Michael yesterday assured the public that he will remain the leader of his National Alliance party.
Transparency International's chair, Mike Manning, says from his organisation's perspective, things are being handled fine.
"PNG COMMENT TP"
At the moment it is, there's nothing more that anyone could be doing. It depends entirely now on the public prosecutor's decision as whether or not to transfer the prime minister to a leadership tribunal. And as far as the succession to the leadership of the National Alliance is concerned, that's something for the National Alliance to decide.

Mike Manning stresses the prime minister is subject to the laws of the land, like everyone else.
