The language of instruction for schools in American Samoa will be both English and Samoan, rather than just English under a bill being proposed by Senator Pulefaasisina Tuiasosopo.
Pulefaasisina, who headed the Samoan Pacific studies programme at the American Samoa Community College before he took up the Senate seat for Alataua, wants the Samoan language to be utilised more in the classroom
His bill calls on the director of education to use Samoan as the language of instruction where it suits the subject matter.
